Dosbarth Derw

Croeso pawb i Dosbarth Derw! Welcome to Dosbarth Derw everyone!

My name is Mr Pugsley and I am the teacher of Dosbarth Derw (Year 6) and the Deputy Head here at Oaklands Primary School. I'm really excited to be joining TEAM Oaklands and I am looking forward to the exciting adventure ahead with our brilliant year 6 pupils!

The past few months have created many hurdles and challenges for everyone and I'm sure you will appreciate that certain measures have had to be put in place to make our school as safe as possible for all staff, learners and their families too. Here is some information you may find useful about moving around our school site as we return to school from September 3rd...

Entry to our school site is through Maes Y Deri, or the Cwmaman Road entrance.

Exit is via the gate on Cardiff Road.

All children will enter the classroom in the mornings through our classroom door (the cabin) and will be asked to hang their coats and bags on a peg. Please maintain a 2 metre distance at all times whilst on the yard and use the footprints to line up before coming into class. At the end of each day the children will be dismissed from our classroom door.

Our day begins at 9.10am and ends at 3.20pm.

Resources

We have individual resources for the children, so they will not need pencil cases.

Pupils will need a coat as we will be accessing the outdoors whenever possible.

Pupils may bring a water bottle, labelled with their name and packed lunch if they are not having a school lunch.

Lunch time

We will be following the one-way system in the school building to enter the hall for lunch. Pupils can bring a packed lunch or school dinners are available at a cost of £2.50 per day (£12.50 a week).  We would really appreciate your support in helping us by paying online for all dinners.  Please contact Mrs Archer in the office should you need more information about how to pay online.

Fruit Tuck

At present, there will be no tuck trolley at break times.  Pupils are able to bring fruit tuck to school and keep this in their bag/lunchbox.

Homework

There will be a homework task every fortnight (on a Friday.) This will need to be returned the following Friday.  There will be a mixture of online tasks and book tasks.

Home learning books will be sent home.  Some homework will be sent out via Microsoft Teams, and password details will also be sent home.

Class work

This term our topic is "Heroes and Villains.” We will be exploring the lives of a variety of fictional and real-life heroes, as well as looking at the traits of some very famous villains. We will also be participating in the Shakespeare Schools Festival - more information coming soon! This will run alongside our literacy and numeracy work and cross-curricular activities.

Reading

Pupils will be given a reading book from our school reading scheme on a Friday, and this should be returned on a Monday.  I will also allocate reading tasks using Giglets, which is our online reading resource.  Please support your child by reading regularly with them and encouraging them to read other materials such as newspapers, magazines or library books.

PE

PE days will be on Tuesday and Thursday.  Pupils need to wear their PE kits to school e.g. jogging bottoms/leggings, a school red, polo shirt and trainers. Pupils need to remove all jewellery and watches for these sessions and those with long hair need to tie it up. Please be mindful of wearing appropriate kit for outdoor PE lessons.

Please wear PE kit to school as there will be no changing at the moment.

Jewellery

Please can I remind you that the school policy is a pair of studs and a watch and all other jewellery should be kept safely at home.  Thank you.

If you ever have any questions or need to get in touch about anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me via email and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Mr Pugsley
