Welcome to Bedwen Bach
The nursery phase begins those vital 'early years' where the structured play/learning environment provides the pre-reading and pre-numeracy skills, which are essential for future learning. A happy or unhappy start to school can impact upon a child's development for many years. The Early Years curriculum is based around the "Foundation Phase Framework" which covers the following areas:
* Language, literacy and Communication Skills;
* Mathematical development;
* Personal and social development;
* Knowledge and understanding of the world;
* Physical and creative development.
We begin to teach reading as soon as the teacher judges a child to be ready - usually between 4 and 5 years of age - but each child will begin reading at a different time and progress at his/her own pace. The timetable is flexible and based mainly on group work after teacher explanations. The work is covered through themes, topics and individual subjects.
